Beds & Breakfast SLOTH's

【Concept】
In June 2026, a machiya guesthouse named “Nedoko to, Asage. Namakemono” will open on Yonban-dori Street in Ono City.
We have carefully renovated a historic machiya townhouse built in 1959 (Showa 34). While preserving its beautiful old beams, pillars, and charming character as much as possible, we have enhanced comfort and functionality using modern techniques.
Here, we offer more than just a place to stay. We provide long-stay plans where you can “live like a local.” Concentrate on work while gazing at the quiet old streets of Ono, take a leisurely stroll through the temple district, or find healing in the nearby mountain views.
Immerse yourself in Ono’s rich sense of time, gently enriching your everyday life — we invite you to enjoy this new lifestyle with us.
The names of our rooms are inspired by passages from Japan’s oldest essay collection, 'The Pillow Book' (Makura no Soshi).
We chose these names with the hope that you will be able to leisurely enjoy the rich natural beauty of Echizen Ono’s four seasons, each in its own special time.
Spring is best at dawn.
Spring Dawn
Haru wa Akebono — Like the quiet moment when the world gently awakens, just as Sei Shōnagon loved. Relax and unwind on a comfortable mattress laid over tatami mats. From the window, you can enjoy the view of Ono’s historic old townscape, feeling the gentle rhythm of daily life as the morning light fills the room. The adjustable reading light by your pillow casts a soft glow on the walls, creating a serene space reminiscent of Zen tranquility. This is a special resting place designed for peaceful, heartwarming mornings.

Summer nights
Summer Night
Natsu wa Yoru — A mystical summer night room that evokes the enchanting glow of moonlight and fireflies, just as Sei Shōnagon loved. Relax and enjoy a deep, peaceful sleep on a comfortable mattress placed over tatami mats. The window offers a view of Ono’s historic old townscape, where you can sense the warm glow of people’s daily lives within the quiet of the night. The adjustable reading light beside your pillow allows you to freely control the brightness. When pointed upward, it gently illuminates the entire room, creating a serene and calming atmosphere. This is a luxurious space that captures the full charm and elegance of a summer night.

Autumn evenings
Autumn Dusk
Aki wa Yūgure — An autumn dusk room that captures the very essence of the season Sei Shōnagon loved: the sunset dyeing the edges of the mountains, with crows and geese returning home, a scene that deeply touches the heart. From the window, enjoy a tranquil view overlooking the garden and the old storehouse. Relax and rest comfortably on a plush mattress laid over tatami mats. We have also prepared a spacious desk area, perfect for focusing on work or reading during long stays. From morning until night, you can fully savor the authentic machiya lifestyle of Ono and enjoy moments of deep peace and serenity.

In winter, early morning
Winter Morning
Fuyu wa Tsutomete — A room that evokes the heartwarming winter dawn described by Sei Shōnagon: the early morning scene of kindling a fire and carrying charcoal on snowy or frosty mornings. Rest comfortably on a plush mattress laid over tatami mats, surrounded by a calm view overlooking the garden and the old storehouse. The room is thoughtfully designed with a convenient desk area, making it ideal for long stays and focused work. In the quiet of winter, enjoy a stay filled with the unique warmth of machiya living — a time to gently enrich your everyday life.
